Would you like to conduct and publish your own research?  Do you know how to design a research project?  Are you interested in cross-cultural issues and looking for a partner in a different country?  Bring your burning research ideas, such as which services are most effective, or most cost-effective?  Which clients benefit most from specific career services? We will review the main steps in designing and conducting research, using your projects to illustrate them. We will examine various research designs and identify those which best address the questions you bring. You should leave with a plan for your research project.

Hsiu-Lan (Shelley) Tien, PhD, Research Committee Chair, received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Iowa in 1993. She is a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling at the National Taiwan Normal University. She was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland (2005-6; 2011-2012). She has also served as President of Taiwan Career Development and Consultation Association (TCDCA), Taipei Counseling Psychologist Association, and APCDA. Currently she is Representative of TCDCA. She earned the 2016 International Practitioner of the Year Award from the National Career Development Association.

Poh Li Lau, PhD, Research Committee Co-Chair & Malaysia Representative, is a senior lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Faculty of Education at University of Malaya, Malaysia. She received her BA and PhD in Counseling from the University of Malaya. She completed a 2-year post-doctoral scholarship in Counseling Psychology at Indiana University Bloomington. Her research interests include career counseling, positive psychology, resilience and well-being, cross-cultural, online counselling, creativity in counseling and psychological testing. She is responsible for teaching and learning in undergrad and postgrad counseling programs. She is also a registered counselor in Malaysia.
