This webinar explores the dynamic relationship between hope and adaptability, drawing upon the frameworks of Hope-Action Theory (Niles, Amundson, & Yoon, 2010) and depth psychology. Participants will examine how adaptability involves responding constructively to changing circumstances in ways that are informed by a deepening self-awareness and increased contextual understanding. Through this lens, hope is not merely an emotional state but a strategic resource that empowers individuals to envision meaningful futures and engage in purposeful action. The session will highlight how these insights form the basis for sustainable, values-aligned change and foster authentic engagement in life and work.

Speaker

Dr. Spencer Niles served as Dean (2013-2020) for the School of Education at William & Mary where he was ranked as the 11th most influential dean of education in the United States. Previously, Niles served at Johns Hopkins University, Penn State, the Finnish Institute for Educational Research, and at the University of Virginia. He is the current Editor for Counselor Education & Supervision and is a Past-President of the National Career Development Association. He received the Eminent Career Award from NCDA in 2007.
